Upcoming PLAN Professional Development & Events

PLAN is an approved continuing education provider for licensure renewals with the State of Nevada Department of Education.

PLAN Webinar Series 2023-2024

  • If you signed up for the PLAN Statewide PLC event and pay registration ($55), you do not have to pay for any of these events.
  • Individual Session Cost: $10 per event
  • You will register for each event.
  • You will receive a certificate of attendance for each session.
  • If you attend the PLAN Statewide PLC event in September (2.5 hours) AND complete the “how you will use it” activity (.5 hour) from that event AND attend each of the professional development 1 hour sessions (9 hours total) AND complete each of the SHARE activities/events (3 total so 3 hours), PLAN will award 1 Nevada state professional development credit with certificate.

Blogs to follow and Sources to Harvest: Thursday, October 12, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Registration: October PLC Event

This session will focus on locating and identifying various sources (blogs, online forums, social media,
etc.) for world language teachers to use to harvest resources and ideas for their world language classrooms. This session will be run PLC (Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. The session will run 1 hour virtually via Zoom or Google Meets and all resources will be available to participants and PLAN members after the session.

Authentic Resources: Tuesday, November 14, 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Registration: November PLC Event

This session will focus on locating, modifying, and integrating authentic resources into the world
language classroom. This session will be run PLC (Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. The session will run 1 hour virtually via Zoom or Google Meets and all resources will be available to participants and PLAN members after the session.

Games: Tuesday, December 5, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

This session will focus on creating games for world language classroom use as well as identifying the
most appropriate type of game for practicing a specific skill or set of information. This session will be
run PLC (Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. Music: Monday, January 8, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

This session will focus on music in the world language classroom-how do teachers use it effectively in their classroom and how else could they use music. This session will be run PLC (Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. Technology Resources for the WL Classroom: Wednesday, February 7, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

This session will focus on different technological resources and programs or websites available for use in the world language classroom. This session will be run PLC (Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. Movietalks – What are they and how to use in the classroom: Thursday, March 7, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

This session will focus on movietalks and describe what they are and then explore various ways to
implement them into the classroom through specific examples. This session will be run PLC
(Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. The session will run 1 hour virtually via Zoom or Google Meets and all resources will be available to participants and PLAN members after the session.

Presentation Ready – Ideas for how to come up with topics for conference presentations and how to design your sessions to be interactive and engaging: Monday, April 8, 7:00-8:00 p.m.

This session will focus on becoming a presenter at any level (school, district, state, regional, national)
and will walk through ideas for choosing session topics, creating session agendas and activities, and
working together to submit proposals. This session will be run PLC (Professional Learning Community)
style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. Reading and Speaking Activities: Tuesday, May 7, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

This session will focus on reading and speaking activities that could be integrated into the world
language classroom to support student engagement and success. This session will be run PLC
(Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session. Debrief-how did we do and what can we do better?: Thursday, May 16, 3:30-4:30 p.m.

This session will focus on reflection both of the professional development opportunities offered during
the year from PLAN and personally as a classroom teacher, with a specific look at how reflection can
be used to increase student engagement and classroom environment. This session will be run PLC
(Professional Learning Community) style, so there will be a brief presentation, then lots of time for sharing of ideas and working through actual classroom situations. The goal of the session is that teachers leave with resources they can use immediately in their classrooms. Any and all teachers are welcome to come and share or just gather ideas from the session.
